Richard Gilmartin began blogging in June 2010 and he’s been sharing his style and photography inspirations on his blog New York City Living ever since. He’s the newest addition to the Details Style Network with five posts published already, and his outfit photos and curated style collections are boosting the site’s chic factor through the roof.

When did you first begin New York City Living and what made you want to start sharing your style knowledge online?

I first started my blog NYC Living in 2010 as a freshman at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Since then it's grown and evolved multiple times. I like to keep the content fresh and enjoy using it as a creative outlet that I can also use to communicate with others. I am constantly seeing new and fresh ideas evolving around me and use the blog like a journal to keep track of what I really like.

How does what do you outside of blogging complement what you write about?

I am currently an advertising and marketing communications major at the Fashion institute of Technology. We are basically bred to consume all forms of media and be able to critically think about the content that is being put out into the world. Being taught to correctly communicate what I'm trying to convey as been a crucial asset that the school has given me. I also work part time at the Express store in SOHO. I really love the area, the types of people you see there and the street style really can't be compared to anything else. I get a lot of inspiration from them for sure.

What’s your favorite kind of post to write?

I really enjoy writing posts on my personal style. Anyone can review a fashion show, but to take those clothes and interpret them in your own way, that's something that not everyone has.

Who are some of your favorite fellow fashion bloggers?

A lot of bloggers I follow go to school here at FIT as well such as Nicole Loher, Freddy Rodriguez of BluePerk, and Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat. I also follow alot of the bigger bloggers like The Man Repeller and The Sartorialist. My favorite blog is four-pins, their witty commentary on menswear is always so spot on.

What do you like most about using Tumblr as your platform? Is there anything that you feel the platform lacks?

I like using tumblr because alot of the users use it as a creative outlet, and alot of the posts are very visual which I love. I do wish the platform had a better way to track how well I am engaging with my readers however.

What is your absolute favorite thing about blogging?

My favorite thing is being able to connect with others who share the same passions as I do, and being able to share my passion with others.
